This kitchen refresh has been a long time coming. Our house is 12 years old and although we’ve made some updates over the years, we’ve been waiting to find the perfect lighting. I was beyond thrilled to partner with our local Ferguson Showroom and find the perfect fit for our home! If you are someone that needs to see a variety of lighting (or faucets or anything for a home refresh/reno) this is your place! You can visit their showroom in person, but they also have a virtual consultation option. How cool is that? Whether you are local or not, you can schedule a time to talk to someone about what you need online. They also have an amazing website that has all of their products HERE. I was intending on doing the virtual consultation but felt comfortable enough to visit my local store with a mask. They were super helpful and the store was overwhelming in the best way! So many pretty things! Here is a look at their showroom and a few up close pics of lighting I loved…
Paint
Just to give a little background, I wanted to show what our kitchen looked like when we first moved in. The dark cabinets and counter tops were so cool and trendy! In fact, the kitchen was my favorite part of the house. Several years ago we wanted to escape the dark cave/ tuscan look and made the decision to paint our kitchen cabinets SW Creamy and get rid of the gold walls. BEST DECISION EVER. Wow how this space brightened up and seemed so much bigger! We also added hardware at that time which I consider the jewelry of cabinets. Wouldn’t you agree?

Backsplash
A few years went by and we knew we wanted a back splash change but weren’t ready to spend thousands quite yet to get that look. The tan looked ok with our white cabinets, but not anything I would pick . We went with a peel and stick subway tile back splash option from Wall Pops. Huge difference and really helped modernize the space! Highly recommend this less expensive option if you want a change too and have a tighter budget.

Lighting
Several years ago we had the bright idea to take away the can light above our island and add 2 pendants. This dressed up our kitchen while it also provided better lighting for that work surface. I bought inexpensive glass pendants at Lowe’s to finish the look. Those served us well but I really craved more contrast (I had my eye out for the perfect black pendants for years after that). We were on a budget so I kept the glass pendants for several years until I found the perfect lights. In comes Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery!
When asked if I’d like to visit with them virtually or in person to find the perfect lighting I 100% said YES! Did they know that I had literally been waiting years for this? As a designer/home decorator I still struggle with finding the perfect fit, especially when it comes to my own home. Most times if I’m indecisive I end up doing nothing.
I decided I would love to see the lighting options in person if I had the choice. I first narrowed down the options I wanted to look at in person by using their website HERE. I knew I wanted the pendants to have black and be a certain size and they had lots of options! With my choice sheet in hand I headed to the showroom and all I can say is WOW! Seeing all that beauty in person was breathtaking and super helpful. It gave me so much inspiration and made me want to change everything I have!
CAN LIGHTING ONLY ADDED PENDANTS
Park Harbor Lighting
Narrowing down my choices was the hardest part by far (which is a great problem to have). I ultimately decided to go with the Rowher pendants from Park Harbor. The matte black finish, the brushed nickel touches, and the modern look sold me. They felt like the lights I’d been on the hunt for but didn’t know I needed. I was drawn to this line because of the modern simple look all the fixtures had. As a person that loves the little details, this line and specifically this light had them!
Looking around I found some bigger chandeliers I loved and decided maybe I should get a coordinating fixture for my breakfast table? The one I currently had was definitely more on the farmhouse side. I ended up going with a classic candelabra chandelier but the modern twist was that is was black! It’s called Blackpool from the Park Harbor line as well. Not only was it black, it had little acrylic pieces under each light that gave it a modern glam look that I was totally digging. The two black lighting options complimented each other so well and was giving me the modern vibe I wanted. Ordering the lighting was done while I was at the store by Shannon (who was so helpful and sweet) and arrived at my doorstep by the next day! Install
This part is not the most fun but certainly exciting. We decided to install these ourselves to save on cost. My husband is not handy whatsoever just to clarify. He was so excited to get these up he did it one afternoon while I took the kids to the waterpark. He admitted it was really simple and straight forward. Best part is we didn’t fight over the install since he did it alone!
Additions
Windows & Door
No refresh is complete without some fun additions right? My new modern kitchen was begging for some more details. The black lighting had me craving black windows & doors, which were for sure way out of our budget. The door got painted first because I had black paint and I knew hot to get that done quickly! Instagram was full of people using a spray paint method of painting window trim and it looked amazing. I watched a few tutorials from @loveresideshere & @prvbsthirtyonegirl and felt confident I could pull it off too. Luckily, I mentioned it and the hubs was completely on board! Kinda rare for the first time bringing a project up, but I wasn’t complaining. I headed to the store that night and grabbed the supplies. By the next day, I had them done! I’ve learned to move fast so no one has a chance to change their mind (wink wink – you know who I’m talking about). See my blog post HERE on how to paint window frames.

Rug
My washable ruggable rug is one of my fav additions to our eating nook and I knew it was staying. However, one thing I love about them is it comes in two parts – the top rug layer (the washable part) & the rug pad. When you want to switch them out you can order just the top rug layer and use the same rug pad. Guess what I did? Yep I ordered a new rug with more black and white in it! It’s not here yet, but I’m excited for it nonetheless. HERE is what I ordered….
NEW RUG
Faucet
Leaky faucets are the worst and I was ready for a working one! Anyone else have the worst luck with kitchen faucets? We’ve replaced several in our kitchen over the years. Our current one was leaking anytime I switched it from stream to spray and it had been driving me nuts. Another detail I gladly updated and it was around $100! I found this sleek modern design with 5 star reviews for a great price online HERE. I wanted it to tie in with my new lighting so I chose the black and chrome look.
Full Reveal
In the end, I think it all tied together beautifully! Not a full kitchen reno, but a great refresh on the cheap. Lighting is the one thing that makes the biggest difference in my opinion. If I could have only added/changed one thing that would have definitely been it! Highly recommend visiting Ferguson Showrooms online or in person for an incredible selection and competitive pricing. If you need a modern line of lighting to look at, check out Park Harbor – love their beautiful pieces!
Thank you Ferguson Showrooms & Park Harbor lighting for an amazing experience and making my lighting decisions difficult. We are in love with our “new” kitchen! This post is sponsored and may include affiliate links.
