My love for decorating first started with kid’s spaces! As a former teacher I loved decorating my classroom (even for holidays). As a mom, kid’s rooms and planning birthday parties are my jam.
With my playroom just having undergone a complete makeover, it only seemed fitting to decorate for Fall/Halloween! It was so much fun adding a few seasonal touches for the kids. My 6 year old is totally obsessed with Halloween so I decked out the playroom while he was at school and surprised him! You can see his reaction on my Instagram highlight “Fall Playroom.”
I’m joining several very talented friends on a blog hop of Fall spaces. Everyone is sharing different things so be sure and check out their blogs that I’ll link at the end of this post!
Letter Ledge
Letter ledges are such a fun addition to any space and can be changed out for any special occasion or just everyday life. I have loved updating ours throughout the year and since this is for the kids I chose one of my son’s favorite things to say at Halloween!
The crow idea came to me after seeing THIS post from @willowbloomhome. She has this same wallpaper and used birdhouses in the trees. Why not birds? And Halloween birds! I found these cute metal crows at Pottery Barn and am obsessed!
The skeletons we bought last year after several trips to Target (started with 1 and ended up with 3 by the time Halloween came) and they pop up all month in different places around our home. So fun!
One even made it into the October 2020 issue of HGTV Magazine from this pic! You can still grab one!
Play Kitchen
Just like a real kitchen, it’s so fun to add Fall touches to the play kitchen. Added some no sew fabric pumpkins (see IGTV video HERE – blog post coming soon), signs, and some pumpkins in the little egg baskets. Not much, but makes it fun for the holidays!
The little kid table (see Instagram highlight “DIY Kid Table” HERE) got a little spruced up too. Added some white maple leaf stems and a book stack I already had. Added this raw wood vase this year to go with the raw wood storage crates I have.
Wall Decor
Huge walls are fun to get creative with, which is why I added that fun stripe recently. Here’s a before
& after of that…
BEFORE – no stripe AFTER – with stripe
Since I had a lot of space to work with I pulled out these ginormous spiders we had and thought it’d be fun to make them hang from the wall. I used command hooks to hang them and added some leftover webbing we had from last year.
Additions
The TV only gets used for video games so it got a few fun garlands added that we already had. When the TV is in use, we can just flip the garlands behind the TV. The skeleton was helping me hang some artwork. He especially likes seeing himself up there made with q-tips!
To go with the spider wall I added a few spiders to the toy bins! Black pumpkins found a seat on our art center stools.
A pop of orange for Fall is a must so a vase of pumpkins stems (and a wood pumpkin) got added to the desk area as well. Love that pop of color on the neutral wall!
The nugget from @nuggetcomfort we have in the middle of the playroom (looks like a couch) is one of the best additions to this room. The pieces come apart for the kids to build and explore with. Adding a Halloween pillow and a witch’s hat (from the dress-up center in this room) was a no brainer!
Lastly, I snagged these wood pumpkins from @decorsteals since they were raw wood like everything else in this room. I couldn’t decide how I wanted to style them so I tried them on the toy shelf and on the windows. Which way do you prefer?
Kid spaces deserve some fun decor for the holidays as well! Hopefully this gave you a few ideas of how to spruce up your home for kids for Fall and Halloween.
